images and thoughts on photography
"He was born in the world not just strongly attracted to beauty
but, almost, hopelessly impaled on it."
A couple of months ago my friend Dillon read about an event held by The Blue Carbuncle Society. This group gathers every year at Multnomah Falls, dressed in Victorian mourning attire, in memory of the fateful fight to the death at Reichenbach Falls between Moriarty and Holmes.
When your friends already own bowler hats, Victorian hairwork, and vintage trousers, vests, jackets, and capes... the decision was elemental, just slip into the crowd! It turned out to be one of the warmest day of the year and everyone seemed to want to be at the Falls. We managed to find a spot on the side of the road and make it to the gathering spot before the bagpipes began to bellow and the procession started to move.
After the ceremony I took the time to break out my old 4x5 field camera. My friend Alister referred to it as "Instagram for Anglo-Catholics." Which reminds me to ask: "Is there a gathering anywhere near Portland, Oregon which commemorates Thomas A'Becket?" To borrow words from Queen Marie of Romania before her coronation "'I want nothing modern... Let mine be all medieval!"

I recently submitted the following two collections to the open call for a group show at NEWSPACE Centre for Photography here in Portland, Oregon. If any of my images are selected they will be shown in July. Two years ago three of my photographs were selected. I will know by the end of May if my work will be included. Stay tuned for updates. I also included these and a few others to SHOTS magazine for their open call for submissions.
